Romania’s gaming population is overwhelmingly young, highly active and deeply integrated into digital culture, according to a new study published by BRD and Good Game Industry, the most extensive research to date on the local gaming demographics, based on 30,000 respondents surveyed between July and August 2025.
The findings show that 84% of Romanian gamers are male, with the core age segment concentrated between 18 and 24 years old (37%), followed closely by the 14–18 cohort (33%). Roughly 67% live in urban areas, and 17% are based in Bucharest.
In terms of occupation, nearly half (49%) of gamers are high-school students, while 24% are university students and 19% are employed. Engagement levels are notably high: 45% play at least five days per week, and 93% spend a minimum of one hour per day in front of the screen.
PC still dominates, but mobile is gaining ground
The PC remains the primary gaming platform for 68% of respondents, followed by mobile phones (52%) and laptops (38%). Players tend to mix modes of play, 70% engage in both single, player and multiplayer titles.
The preferred genres mirror global trends: sandbox games (51%), including Minecraft and Roblox; shooters (50%) such as CS2 and Valorant; and action-adventure RPGs (44%), with GTA cited among the top examples.
YouTube leads gaming content consumption
When it comes to media habits, YouTube dominates overwhelmingly (97%), acting as the central platform for gaming content. TikTok (44%) and Instagram (28%) follow at a distance.
A significant share of gamers consume creator-driven content: 76% watch livestreams, while 63% prefer recorded videos.
Strong appetite for Esports careers

31% of respondents consider an esports career “very interesting.” The main motivations: a passion for gaming (85%) and the possibility of earning income from a personal interest (68%).
